William John “Bill” Berchek Jr., 67, passed away at his home near Great Bend, KS on May 2, 2015. He was born on July 29, 1947 in Pueblo, CO to William John Berchek Sr. and Evelyn Caroline Gordon. Bill received his Associates Degree from Barton County Community College and used it in a wide variety of areas. He worked for 30 years as a Conductor for Union Pacific Railroad as well as in real estate and farming. He was a lifetime resident of Barton County. He married Marcia Richardson on March 25, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives of the home. Memberships for Bill include the American Legion Post 180, served in the United States Army, past elected officer of the Great Bend Township, and volunteered for the Barton County Farm Bureau Board.

Survivors include wife, Marcia Berchek; son, Jason (Wendy) Berchek, San Diego, CA; daughters Jill (Bill) Bossow Nutkins, Edwards, CO, and Jenell (Mark) Puett, Olathe, KS; sister, Marianne (David) Krallman, Great Bend, KS; grandchildren, Avery Berchek, Aidan Berchek, Coleman Puett, Hailey Puett, Brittney Bossow, Abby Bossow, Kierstyn Anderson, Kaityln Baca; and a nephew Nathan Krallman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Misti Berchek Anderson, and grandson, Justin Anderson. 

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 7 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood with Pastor Jennifer Fair and Sister Renee Dreiling presiding. Visitation will be held at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood on Wednesday May 6 from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-7. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Church of Christ or the Dominican Sisters of Peace or a memorial dear to your heart in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
