Wayne Edward Richardson, age 67, died unexpectedly May 29, 2020 at his home in Ellinwood, KS. Wayne was born August 25, 1952, to John and Gladys Richardson of Ellinwood. He was a 1970 graduate of Ellinwood High School. Wayne moved to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas and remained in Lawrence for more than thirty years until after his parents’ deaths when he bought the family home and moved back to Ellinwood. Over the years, Wayne loved and kept many parakeets and cats. He also loved the color green and always wrote in green ink. That was his trademark. Wayne loved to take photos of nature and to document and preserve local history. While living in Lawrence, he learned of a concept dating back to the 1930’s that proposed replacing the Gregorian calendar with a simpler alternative. He became an ambassador for the idea, eventually serving as director of the World Calendar Association. Wayne is survived by his sisters: Nelwyn Cook, Nancy (Pat) Moyer, and Ann (Dean) Martin, as well as five nieces and nephews, ten great-nieces and nephews and six cousins. Memorials suggested to the Ellinwood Museum, PO Box 111, Ellinwood, KS 67526. A private family gathering will be held later this month with internment in the Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood.
