Mildred A. (Sherwood) Carpenter, 97, passed away July 10, 2021 at Ellinwood District Hospital. She was born in Izard Co., Arkansas to parents Charles & Laura Sherwood. Mildred graduated high school in Calico Rock, Arkansas and married James Herbert Carpenter in August 1943 in Calico Rock, Arkansas before moving to Ellinwood, Kansas where she made her home for over 70 years. She attended Barton County Community College and worked as a CNA. Mildred was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, KS.
Survivors include sons, James O. Carpenter & Larry E. Carpenter; daughters, Merle Deane Boepple & Mollie Ellen Staudinger; 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Private interment will take place at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in care of Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, KS.
