Mike Strobl, 78, died at his home in Ellinwood, KS, on August 8, 2014. He was born on March 18, 1936, in Great Bend, KS, and was raised by Nick & Alice Klepper of Ellinwood. Mike served in the US Army during the Korean War, was a member of the American Legion, and a volunteer firefighter for 28 years. He was a lifetime Ellinwood area resident where he was co-owner of Strobl-Yarmer Construction. He married Jeanie Brown on September 21, 1963, in Phoenix, AZ.
Survivors include wife, Jeanie (Brown) Strobl of the home; son, Scott (Maureen) Strobl, Chicago, IL; daughters, Susan (Brian) Burrus, Wichita, KS, Laura (Steve) Schaffer, Denver, CO; brothers, Kenneth Klepper, Great Bend, KS, Ray Klepper, San Antonio, TX; sister, Roberta Berry, Estes Park, CO; grandchildren, Ben, Mark, and Patrick Burrus, John and Kate Schaffer, and Michael Strobl.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with burial to follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation is Tuesday, August 12, from 1-6 pm at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. The Altar Society will pray a rosary at 3:00 pm on Tuesday and there will be a 7:00 pm Vigil service also at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health - Hospice and “Kans for Kids Fall Fun Festival” (a local event benefiting children with cancer in Barton County) in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
