Marlin C. Isern
June 25, 1930 ~ November 26, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Marlin C. Isern (Mort), 86, passed away on November 26, 2016 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, KS. He was born in rural Ellinwood on June 25, 1930 to Landry & Emma H. (Manke) Isern. Marlin graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1948. He later joined the US Army where he served from 1953-1955.
He married Normalee Peter at United Church of Christ, September 4, 1960. Marlin was a lifetime Ellinwood resident where he worked as a farmer and an electrician and was very active in the community. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as President, Trustee and church elder. He also was a member and past president of Lions Club, and active member of the American Legion, former past Commander of the 7th District (1994), and past board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Marlin also was a boy scout leader, township trustee of Lakin township, past President of KS Legislative Policy Group, former school board member and county commissioner. Marlin also was a loyal American Red Cross blood donor for many years. In addition he was a tour escort for the Great Bend Coop Tour for 25 years. He enjoyed his golf cart and could be found having coffee with his friends.
Survivors include wife, Normalee Isern, Ellinwood; son, Carl Isern (Cheryl), Ellinwood; daughter, DeAnn Haake (David), Olathe; grandchildren, Chris Isern, CayLee Isern, Cody Isern, Marissa Haake, Erica Haake, & Daniel Haake. Other survivors include 4 nieces & nephews, John, Jane, Mark & Myron Isern. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin L.J. Isern. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday December 3rd at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with Pastor Merlin Lohrke officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be Friday December 2ndfrom 3-8 pm at St. John Lutheran Church with family present from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church or the American Legion Post #320 in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
