Ellinwood, KS
Marilyn Jean (Ewy) Sauber, 92, passed away in Salina, KS on Nov. 2nd, 2024. Born Oct. 11th, 1932 in Hanston, KS she was the daughter of Otto and Vivian Thelma (Salmans) Ewy. Marilyn graduated from Ellinwood HS in 1950 and later Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She married James Sauber at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood on July 16, 1953. In addition to raising children Marilyn was an accomplished seamstress, cook, andcanner/gardener. Marilyn was a bus dispatcher for the Commission on Aging in Ellinwood for 27 years. She also worked as an RN for Ellinwood District Hospital before retiring in 1992. Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society, Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary, and Twilight Stitchers. Marilyn loved quilting and collecting antiques.
Survivors include children, Michael (Diane) Sauber, Julie (Greg) Stephens, Robert (Christine) Sauber, Jackie (Bill) Klapper, Elaine (Ken) Martin, Andrew (Patty) Sauber, Keith Sauber; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include sister in laws; Bettie Sauber, Carol Ewy; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by husband of over 70 years James Sauber; siblings, Georgia Shuler and Gordon Ewy; and daughter in law, Janet Sauber.
Funeral Mass will take place 10:30 AM, Sat., Nov. 9th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, KS with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, KS. Visitation at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood on Fri., Nov. 8th will be 2-5 PM with Altar society Rosary at 3 PM. Family will receive friends that evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 5-7 PM prior to the parish Rosary/Vigil beginning at 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School Endowment, Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary, or Commission on Aging in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
