Lorraine Mary (Matza) Rickert, 78, died on March 4th, 2015 at her home in Ellinwood, KS. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 8, 1936 to Joseph and Barbara  (Brungardt) Matza. She graduated high school from St. Mary’s school in Garden City, attended the Immaculate Conception Convent in Great Bend, and also graduated from the Wilcox Beauty Academy. She later married Larry Rickert on May 9th, 1963 in Holly, Co., he survives of the home. She was a 52 year resident of Ellinwood where she worked as a beautician. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church serving as an Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Sacristan. Other memberships include the Altar Society, Daughter’s of Isabella, VFW, and Kansas for Life. She was also an active card player -- participating in Bridge Marathon.

 

Survivors include husband, Larry Rickert, Ellinwood, KS; sons, David Rickert, Scottsdale, AZ, Fr. John Rickert, FSSP,  Maple Hill, KS; daughters, Christine (Mark) Becker, Hutchinson, KS, Barbara (Jim) Lubbe, Goddard, KS; brothers, Joseph Matza, Stone Mountain, GA, James (Barbara) Matza, Las Vegas, NV, Jerome Matza, Wichita, KS, John (Barbara) Matza, Woodbridge, VA.; sisters, Loretta (Mike) Gilbert, Garden City, KS, LaVerna Coleman, Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Jeanine Gowdy. Other survivors include 11 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Louise Peloza.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday March 7th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m on Friday March 6th at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. There will be an Altar Society rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. wake service and rosary at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s A/C Fund, or  Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (FSSP)  in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
