Gloria Robins Obituary

Gloria Ann Robins, 96, a long-time resident of Ellinwood, Kansas, died Monday, December 18, 2023 in
Wichita, Kansas with family by her side. She was born February 5, 1927, in Fredonia, Kansas to Sidney
and Marie (Schuler) Blankinship. Gloria graduated from Fredonia High School in 1945. She met her future husband, Robert Robins, on a blind date in Denver, Colorado, while she was visiting her friend and he was stationed there in the armed services. Although his later deployment to Japan separated the two for a period of time, they
continued to correspond via letters. Gloria married Robert on August 14, 1948. They celebrated 69 years of marriage prior to Robert’s death. Gloria found joy as a homemaker while caring for and raising their six children. She was an excellent seamstress and baker. In addition to raising their children, Gloria co-owned a nursery school where she also taught. When her own children were grown, she managed an in-home daycare caring for two of her grandchildren as well as other children in the community. Gloria was an avid Ellinwood Eagles fan. She rarely missed a sporting event and had a designated seat in the high school gymnasium where her husband coached the high school basket ball team. She relished their small town and the many close friendships it afforded her. She and her circle of friends played bridge, golf, and mutually supported each other while they raised a generation of children. On any given day of the week, it was common practice for a friend or two to drop in for coffee and fellowship. Gloria will be remembered for her friendly, welcoming demeanor and her positive outlook on life. She loved her family, her church and her friends. She was a woman of strong faith in God and enjoyed manyyears of service on the Altar Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
