Elma “Jean” Miller, 87, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on May 20th, 2022. Born in Great Bend, KS on September 15, 1934 she was the daughter of Lawrence & Frances (Huschka) Sessler. She graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1952 and later attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS. Jean worked as a secretary for Knop Oil where she met her lifelong partner, Harold Miller. She married Harold on October 16, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, KS. They shared 67 years of memories together. Harold and Jean enjoyed roller skating, ice fishing, raising four children, creating keepsakes for craft shows, and took pride in their children and grandchildrens’ accomplishments. Nana was most known for her chicken noodle soup and her love of Christmas. She was a longtime Ellinwood resident. Memberships include St. Joseph Church/Altar Society, and Tri Circle organization. Jean also spent time as a Den Mother for the local Boy Scout organization.
Survivors include husband, Harold Miller, Ellinwood; son, Steve (Kim) Miller, Ellinwood; daughters, Cheryln (Jon) Christian and Angela Behnke, Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Pam Miller, Ellinwood; grandchildren, Troy, Michelle, Jessica, Autumn, Ryan, Scott, Brayden & Breauna; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and son, Nathan Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 AM, Monday, May 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, KS with officiants Father Terrance Klein and Father Pascal Klein. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, May 22, from Noon-7 PM with Altar Society Rosary at 3 PM and Vigil Service at 7 PM all at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School, Ellinwood Hospital Foundation, Tri Circle, Shriners Hospitals for Children (Houston), or Ronald McDonald House in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
