Daryle Wayne Nielsen

Daryle Wayne Nielsen,  age 63, passed away Oct. 16, 2013 at his home. He was born Mar. 6 1950 in Sterling, KS, the son of Melvin “Chub” and Betty (LaMay) Nielsen.  A 37 year resident of Ellinwood, he was a safety director for Southwind Drilling. On Feb. 10 1977 he married Gaila (Branson) in Lake Tahoe, NV, she survives of the home. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a retired volunteer firefighter and EMT for 32 years, he retired from the City of Ellinwood as Electric Superintendent of Production and Distribution, and past board member of Kansas Municipalities organizations (KMEA,KMU). He served as a Board member for Ks Power Pool Agency, Ks Municipal Utilties, and Ks Municipal Energy Agency.  He was instrumental in the creation of the KMEA Mutual Aid program and was the 1st recipient of the Daryle Nielsen Distinquished Service Award, given annually for those who are recognized for exemplary leadership and service during disastors and need for cities in the state of Kansas. Other survivors include, a son, Shawn W. Nielsen (Jennifer), Wichita, KS; a daughter Shelly Ward (Matt), Burleson, TX; a sister, Linda Belden (Dan), Hutchinson, KS and 2 grandchildren. Preceded in death by Melvin and Betty Nielsen and Irene (Elliot) Nielsen. Memorial Service will be 10:00am, Fri. Oct. 25th 2013 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Ellinwood with Pastor Jeff Frakes presiding. Visitation will be 11 am- 8 pm Thurs. 24th with family present 6-8 at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellinwood. Memorials may be given to Ellinwood Fire Dept., Ellinwood Ambulance Service, and Ellinwood Community Foundation in care of Minnis Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
