Bernita K. (Urban) Schloemer-Clair, age 83, passed away April 27, 2015 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood, KS. She was born on December 27, 1931 in Rush Co., KS, the daughter of Wendelin & Rosemary (Leiker) Urban. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1949 and married Millard Schloemer in Great Bend, KS on June 20, 1954. He died February 22, 1982. She later married Ural G. (Jack) Clair in Ellinwood, KS on December 7, 1990 he survives of the home. Bernita worked as a secretary for USD #403 in Bison, KS and as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in LaCrosse, KS. Memberships include St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Twilight Quilting Guild, Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary, Sunflower Polka Club, and was a Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include husband, Jack Clair, Ellinwood, KS; son, Mark Schloemer (Faith), Bison, KS; step-sons, Gary Clair (Jean), Great Bend, KS, Larry Clair (Debbie Tammen), Ellinwood, KS, and Kevin Clair (Gina), Ellinwood, KS; step-daughter, Janice Birzer (Steve), Ellinwood, KS; brother, Norbert Urban (Elsie) LaCrosse, KS; sisters, Edna Giebler (Kenneth), Hays, KS, Luceda Hager, Lyons, KS, Doris Armstrong, Springfield, MO, Charlene Kreutzer (Robert) Great Bend, KS; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Urban, LaCrosse, KS. Other survivors include 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 7 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; brother, Justin Urban; sister, Alice Heeps; and brother-in-laws, Johnny Hager & Arlin Armstrong.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Friday May 1, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood, KS with Fr. John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at the LaCrosse City Cemetery, LaCrosse, KS with Fr Matthew Kumi presiding. Visitation will be at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood on Thursday April 30 from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM. The Altar Society Rosary will be at 3:00 PM followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00PM.
